Zoom H6 Handy Portable Digital Audio Recorder

I've owned this H6 since new. It worked perfectly until just this last week. Now it won't boot all the way to the operating system. I tried downloading the latest firmware on to the SD card and holding down the record button whilst booting up to installed the new firmware -  this allowed me to get to the operating system once, but not in subsequent attempts. I've got to assume that there's some minor problem with the circuitry inside.

I repair electronics with through-hole components regularly, but I don't have much experience with surface mount technology. I was considering getting a 32-bit floating-point recorder anyway, so rather than faff about and try and fix it, I'll pass it on to somebody with appropriate skills and experience. A cursory search of the internet in consultation with AI implies that replacing SMD capacitors and a circuit-mounted battery is probably going to bring it back to life, but please take that with a pinch of salt: It's sold as seen for parts or r.
